Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms: Long Term Complications

Diabetes is majorly classified into  two types, Type 1 and Type 2. Type 2 diabetes formerly known as adult onset diabetes develops slowly but causes serious health complications. It is recommended to diagnose it in early stages and get proper treatment. Diabetes type 2 is due to pancreas doesn’t make enough insulin or body doesn’t use it properly, but up to now the proper reason for it still unknown. This causes increased levels in glucose content. Glucose levels in the body are lowered by insulin this is referred as insulin resistance.Type 2 diabetes generally occurs in following people

1.Over 45 years age
2.Overweight
3.Had inherited from family
4.Smoking
5.Drinking alcohol excessively
6.Have high blood pressure or had a heart attack or strokes previously

The common symptoms and signs of type 2 diabetes are

1.Increased thirst
2.Increased hunger
3.Unexplained Weight-loss
4.Blurred sight
5.Numbness in hands and feet
6.Frequent urination
7.Fatigue
8.Headaches
9.Slow healing of sores
10.Darkened skin
11.Dehydration, this is due to frequent urination, a large amount of water is lost.

If there is low production of insulin as in the case of type 2 diabetes it may lead to high blood sugar levels which is commonly known as glucose toxicity. This may damage the pancreas and without insulin the glucose levels rises to such an extent that it cause damage to organs such as eyes, nerves and kidneys.

Long term complications of Type 2 diabetes are serious they include

1.Heart attack
2.strokes
3.Diabetic kidney damage
4.Diabetic foot ulcers
5.Diabetic eye damage

Treatment of type 2 diabetes

People with type 2 diabetes can control it with bringing changes in lifestyle.

people need to take well balanced diet that is low in fats, sugar and salt. Taking content high in fiber, i.e vegetables and fruits. Examples of vegetables rich in fiber are beans, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, eggplant. Examples of fruits rich in fiber are apples, dry fruits like figs, raisins, apricots, dates.

Avoid smoking. Smoking habits enhances diabetes. Smoking not only enhances diabetes but can also be the alone reason for diabetes.

Avoid alcohol.

Exercise daily it promotes circulation of blood and makes an individual looks fresh.

In medications Metformin is the most used which controls glucose levels in blood stream by controlling its production in liver.

Sulfonylureas and Meglitnides make pancreas secrete more insulin.

If general medicines and changes in life style do not control glucose levels in the body, then insulin injections are recommended
